NADDC Begins Nationwide Drive to Register Nigeria’s Auto Dealers

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has commenced a nationwide sensitisation campaign on its new Dealership Registration Portal, kicking off the South-West edition of the workshop in Lagos as part of efforts to formalise and digitally transform Nigeria’s automotive dealership sector.

Flagging off the exercise at the Radisson Hotel, Ikeja, on Thursday, NADDC Director-General, Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, described the initiative as a major milestone in implementing the National Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP 2023–2033) and strengthening regulation across the country’s automotive value chain.

He said the sensitisation programme is designed to educate dealers on the benefits of the portal, which will create a centralised, real-time database of registered dealerships, improve vehicle verification and regulatory compliance, enhance transparency, and connect dealers with vehicle manufacturers, financial institutions and government.

According to Osanipin, the portal will also grant legal recognition to registered dealerships, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks through digitalisation, improve access to financing, and provide reliable industry data to support evidence-based policymaking.

He urged automotive dealers to see registration as a strategic business opportunity rather than a regulatory obligation, stressing that the digital platform will improve the ease of doing business, attract investment and position Nigeria’s automotive industry for greater global competitiveness.

Declaring the South-West sensitisation workshop open, the NADDC boss expressed confidence that the nationwide campaign would accelerate the digital transformation of the dealership sub-sector and promote sustainable growth in the industry.

In a goodwill message, the Chairman, House Committee on Industry, Hon. Dr. Enitan Dolapo Badru, represented by the Committee Clerk, Barr. (Dr.) Usman Ibrahim, praised NADDC for the initiative, describing the portal as a timely intervention that will strengthen planning, regulatory oversight and data collection while supporting industrialisation, job creation and economic diversification.

Also speaking, the National President of the Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria (AMDON), Prince Ajibola Adedoyin, commended NADDC for launching the sensitisation programme, saying the portal will formalise dealership operations, boost the credibility of genuine dealers, improve consumer confidence and expand access to financing and government support. He pledged AMDON’s commitment to mobilising members nationwide to register on the platform.

The workshop featured live demonstrations and interactive sessions to guide participants through the registration process and explain the benefits of joining the national dealership database.
