Kojo Motors Rolls Out Toyota Leasing Scheme to Revolutionise Public Transport

…Donates N300,000 to PTONA

In a bold move set to transform Nigeria’s public transport landscape, Kojo Motors Limited, an accredited dealer of Toyota Nigeria Limited, has unveiled plans to launch a Toyota commercial vehicle leasing scheme for members of the Public Transport Owners of Nigeria Association (PTONA).

The initiative, announced at the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lagos, is designed to make brand-new Toyota commercial vehicles affordable through flexible financing, giving transport operators easier access to modern, reliable and fuel-efficient buses while improving the commuting experience for millions of Nigerians.

Underscoring its commitment to the transport sector, Kojo Motors also donated N300,000 to support PTONA’s activities and ongoing reforms.

Speaking at the AGM, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Kojo Motors Limited, Ikenna Oguegbu, described transportation as the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, saying operators need innovative financing solutions to replace ageing fleets without the burden of huge upfront costs.

“Kojo Motors believes every transport operator should have the opportunity to own and operate modern, dependable Toyota commercial vehicles. Our planned leasing scheme with PTONA will empower operators, improve service delivery and provide Nigerians with safer, more comfortable and more reliable transportation,” he said.

Oguegbu added that the initiative aligns with the company’s vision of expanding access to quality mobility solutions while stimulating economic growth and job creation.

Also speaking, Kojo Motors’ National Sales Manager, Chino Ogwumike, highlighted Toyota’s reputation for durability, low operating costs and high resale value, describing the leasing programme as a game-changer for the transport industry.

“This is more than a vehicle sales programme. It is a sustainable mobility solution that will enable PTONA members to operate genuine Toyota commercial vehicles backed by professional after-sales support, readily available spare parts and expert maintenance. The biggest winners will be Nigerian commuters,” he said.

Welcoming the proposal, Acting President of PTONA, Comrade Uwemedimo Udo Essen, described the partnership as a breakthrough capable of reshaping public transportation across the country.

“Affordable vehicle leasing will enable our members to modernise their fleets, improve operational efficiency and deliver better services. We appreciate Kojo Motors for this visionary initiative and for the generous donation of N300,000 to our association,” he said.

He assured members that PTONA would work with Kojo Motors to develop a transparent framework that would make the leasing scheme accessible to operators nationwide.

Industry analysts believe the partnership could fast-track fleet renewal in Nigeria’s public transport sector at a time when soaring vehicle prices have made outright purchases increasingly difficult. If successfully implemented, the initiative is expected to improve passenger safety, boost transport efficiency and support the Federal Government’s drive for a more organised and customer-focused public transportation system.
