FRSC Set To Ban Substandard Tyres

…Sealing Pastes and Other Improvised Gums by Vulcanizers

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he federal road Safety Corp has revealed intention to outlaw Substandard Tyres and other inferior Thread Sealing Products in Nigeria.

The nation’s road marshals who were concerned about the incessant premature deaths on the Nigerian roads due to improper vehicle maintenance parts say that the Corp is ready to put vehicle road worthy laws in proper perspectives to safeguard Nigeria road users from unworthy vehicles.

According to a statement by Mr. Bisi Kazeem, Head of Media Relations and Strategy of Corps, FRSC, Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi’s interest to intensify the sensitization and enforcement campaign in the above-stated areas is further reinforced by the House of Representatives’ Resolution (HR.65/2016) to curb the influx of substandard tyres, non-lubricant rims and fake tyre sealing pastes, as well as the use of food-based products on tyres by vulcanizers.

According to Mr. Kazeem, the Corps Marshal has stressed that Vulcanizers are culpable for the ways and manner they improperly handle tyres during repairs, and added that the dangerous practice of engaging fake sealing pastes is capable of causing rusts on new rims, as well as wears on new and standard tyres.

The Vulcanizers’ Association are said to have been intimated with the ban at a meeting with the Corp Marshal who warned them to desist from their inappropriate and dangerous conducts.

Since 2010, the Federal Road Safety Corps say nearly 5000 Nigerians have lost their lives in road accidents as the result of tyre bursts.
