Nigeria’s emergency response system is heading for a major overhaul as the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) joins a fresh Federal Government drive to make the 112 Emergency Number faster, more effective and truly nationwide.

The Corps Marshal, FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, mni, was among key emergency response stakeholders who met with Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, in a high-level strategic session focused on strengthening the functionality, responsiveness and national reach of the 112 emergency service.

For millions of Nigerians travelling the country’s roads, the initiative could become a critical lifeline when disaster strikes.

Road crashes can turn into life-and-death situations within minutes, making the speed at which distress calls reach rescue agencies crucial. The FRSC’s involvement is therefore expected to strengthen the connection between emergency callers and the Corps’ nationwide rescue operations.

With its nationwide command structure, trained personnel and experience in road crash rescue, the FRSC is strategically positioned to inject greater operational capacity into the unified emergency response framework.

The initiative also reinforces the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, particularly its focus on public safety, national resilience and emergency preparedness.

The vision emerging from the strategic engagement is clear: one emergency number, coordinated agencies, faster intervention and more lives saved.

For road users, the success of the initiative could ultimately determine how quickly help arrives when every second counts.
