In a country where stories of missing valuables often trail disaster scenes, operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have flipped the script, turning a tragic crash into a powerful testament of integrity.
It began as a devastating road accident on Sunday, March 15, 2026, along the Zaria–Funtua Highway near Zaria Academy. A Toyota Corolla and a Peugeot 806 collided, leaving one person dead and eight others injured in a scene of chaos and distress.
But amid the wreckage, something extraordinary happened.
As FRSC rescue teams raced to save lives, administering first aid and evacuating victims to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, they stumbled on a staggering discovery: ₦3,727,500 in cash and valuables worth about ₦500,000 scattered across the crash site.
In that critical moment, with no cameras and no supervision, the officers made a choice that is now drawing national attention.
Not a single Naira went missing.
Instead, the cash and valuables were meticulously secured, documented, and preserved. Less than 24 hours later, in a remarkable show of accountability, the Zaria Unit Commander, Nasiru A. Falgore, formally handed over every kobo to the rightful owners in the presence of witnesses and family members.
Reacting to the rare display of honesty, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, hailed the officers as shining examples of the agency’s core values – integrity, discipline, and service to humanity.
For the victims, it was more than just money recovered. It was trust restored. Still shaken from the crash, they expressed deep gratitude, noting that the same officers who fought to save their lives also protected their hard-earned resources at their most vulnerable moment.
Observers say the incident sends a powerful message: even in the face of tragedy, integrity is still alive on Nigeria’s highways.
