Carloha Nigeria has introduced another Chinese electric vehicle, the Chery Q, into the Nigerian market, adding fresh momentum to the country’s rapidly emerging electric mobility landscape.
The new compact hatchback, introduced by Carloha Nigeria, the official franchise holder and assembler of Chery vehicles in Nigeria, is aimed at motorists seeking a combination of affordability, intelligent technology, practicality and cleaner mobility.
The Chery Q also marks a modern revival of Chery International’s iconic QQ family, transforming the nameplate for a new generation with an all-electric powertrain, advanced digital technology and a distinctive design.
Developed around Chery’s global “Quest for Joy” theme, the Q is targeted particularly at young professionals, families and urban motorists looking for a smarter and more connected driving experience.
Its styling has already earned international recognition, with the vehicle receiving both the Red Dot Design Award and iF Design Award. Its compact body combines geometric styling, rounded LED lighting and a two-tone interior designed to give it a distinctive presence on city roads.
But the Chery Q is not relying on appearance alone to win Nigerian buyers.
Despite its compact dimensions, the vehicle boasts an 85 per cent space-efficiency ratio. Measuring 4,195mm long with a 2,700mm wheelbase, it offers generous cabin space and flexible storage, including 375 litres of luggage capacity expandable to 1,450 litres, a 70-litre front trunk and 38 storage compartments.
Underneath, the Chery Q uses a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive architecture, independent suspension and balanced weight distribution, while Electric Power Steering and One-Box Brake-by-Wire technology are designed to deliver sharper handling and smoother braking.
The electronic braking system also supports energy recovery, helping the vehicle maximise the efficiency of its electric powertrain.
Safety is another major selling point. The Chery Q comes with a Level 2 intelligent driver-assistance system incorporating more than 20 safety and convenience functions.
Among them are Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent High Beam Control, a 540-degree panoramic camera and Automated Parking Assist.
Inside the cabin, technology takes centre stage with a 15.6-inch high-definition touchscreen powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, intelligent voice control, 50W wireless charging, smartphone integration and remote vehicle management via a mobile application are also available.
For Nigerian motorists worried about electric-vehicle range, Carloha says the Chery Q offers an estimated 400km range under the NEDC test cycle.
Its fast-charging capability is another attraction, with the battery able to charge from 30 to 80 per cent in about 16.5 minutes, according to the specifications supplied by the company.
The vehicle also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, allowing owners to use the vehicle’s battery to power compatible electrical equipment and devices—potentially adding a new dimension to EV ownership in Nigeria.
Felix Mahan, General Manager, Marketing, Carloha Nigeria, said the arrival of the Chery Q fulfils the company’s earlier promise to introduce another Chery electric vehicle into the Nigerian market.
According to him, the launch demonstrates Carloha’s commitment to expanding access to smart, sustainable and technologically advanced mobility solutions.
He described the Chery Q as a milestone in the company’s effort to provide Nigerian motorists with world-class mobility solutions, combining premium design, advanced technology, electric performance and value.
The company is also seeking to tackle one of the biggest concerns surrounding EV ownership—aftersales support.
The Chery Q comes with CarlohaCare 6-6-7 package, offering six years’ warranty, six years of free servicing and a seven-day repair promise. Under the package, Carloha says a customer whose vehicle cannot be repaired within seven days will be provided with a courtesy car.
With Nigeria’s electric-vehicle market gradually expanding, the arrival of the Chery Q adds another contender to an increasingly competitive field of Chinese EV brands seeking to capture the attention of Nigerian motorists.
For Carloha, however, the bigger ambition appears clear: make intelligent electric mobility more accessible while giving Nigerian buyers the technology, warranty and aftersales support needed to take the EV plunge.
The Chery Q is now available at Carloha showrooms nationwide.
