Nigeria’s commercial transport market is getting a fresh shake-up as OMAA rolls out three new CNG and electric buses alongside a financing scheme offering vehicles for as little as ₦890,000 monthly- an initiative aimed at lowering the entry barrier for fleet operators battling high acquisition costs.
Unveiled to coincide with the company’s sixth anniversary, the new lineup comprises the OMAA U3 minibus, K7 bus and V12 high-capacity city bus, extending its reach from small shuttle operators to large-scale mass transit businesses.
The company has opened pre-orders for all three models, allowing buyers to choose CNG or battery-electric variants according to their routes, operating costs and access to energy infrastructure.
A major highlight is OMAA Finance, a programme developed in partnership with leading Nigerian financial institutions to make vehicle acquisition more accessible to commercial operators.
The scheme offers repayment periods of up to 48 months, with advertised monthly payments starting at ₦890,000 for the OMAA U3, subject to an initial 10 per cent deposit and applicable eligibility and financing conditions.
Speaking on the development, OMAA Managing Director, Chinedu Oguegbu, said the launch reflects the company’s determination to advance local automotive manufacturing while expanding access to cleaner and potentially more economical transportation.
“Six years ago, we set out to demonstrate that commercial vehicles could be assembled in Nigeria and powered by cleaner, more affordable energy. Today, the introduction of the OMAA U3, K7 and V12 in both CNG and electric variants, alongside our vehicle financing programme, represents another significant step towards that vision,” he said.
Oguegbu added that the company aims to help operators acquire suitable vehicles, manage running costs and build sustainable businesses through locally supported servicing, spare-parts availability and structured financing.
Three buses target different market segments
The OMAA U3 is a 12-to-15-seater minibus designed for urban and intercity transport, institutional shuttles and businesses requiring compact passenger vehicles.
The OMAA K7, with capacity for 23 to 30 passengers, targets staff transportation, school buses, corporate fleets and medium-capacity passenger routes.
At the top of the range, the OMAA V12 is a high-capacity city bus configured to carry between 43 and 70 passengers, targeting mass transit operators and businesses serving high-demand routes.
All three models are available in CNG and battery-electric configurations, giving fleet owners alternatives to evaluate against energy costs, maintenance requirements, vehicle utilisation and access to refuelling or charging facilities.
Cargo vans, ambulances expand the offering
Beyond passenger transportation, OMAA is offering special-purpose configurations, including cargo vans, ambulances, VIP transport vehicles and airport shuttles.
Using common vehicle platforms across different applications could help organisations streamline maintenance, spare-parts management and technical training, particularly where they operate multiple vehicle types.
Finance targets fleet expansion
OMAA said its financing initiative is designed to ease the upfront cost of vehicle acquisition and help businesses expand their fleets without paying the full purchase price immediately.
The company is also emphasising total cost of ownership (TCO), which includes purchase costs, energy consumption, servicing, spare parts and other expenses over a vehicle’s working life.
However, the advertised ₦890,000 monthly payment is an indicative starting point. Actual repayments and potential savings will depend on the vehicle selected, deposit, financing terms, energy prices, utilisation levels and access to suitable CNG or charging infrastructure.
Further details on eligibility, deposits and indicative ownership costs are available on the company’s website.
Six years of local operations
Headquartered in Umunya, Anambra State, with offices in Lagos, Abuja and Accra, OMAA operates in Nigeria and Ghana, serving fleet operators, institutions and businesses.
The latest launch brings together local vehicle assembly, alternative-energy technology, after-sales support and financing in a single commercial mobility proposition.
With transport businesses under pressure to control operating expenses, the availability of CNG and electric buses could broaden options for fleet modernisation. The initiative’s success will depend on vehicle performance under Nigerian operating conditions, accessible financing, reliable after-sales service and adequate refuelling and charging infrastructure.
For OMAA, the challenge now is to translate its new lineup and financing offer into sustained fleet orders and strengthen its position in Nigeria’s evolving commercial mobility market.
