NAJA Sets December Date For 2026 Auto Industry Awards Showdown

Nigeria’s automotive industry is heading for another major showdown as the Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) sets Thursday, December 3, 2026, for the grand finale of its 19th annual awards.

The prestigious ceremony, billed for the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, is expected to bring together the biggest names in Nigeria’s automotive business—including vehicle manufacturers, distributors, dealers, financial institutions, policymakers and other industry heavyweights.

But beyond the glamour, the December event could become a major test of who truly dominated the Nigerian automotive market in 2026.

NAJA says it is preparing an awards ceremony that will be bigger, more glamorous and more competitive than previous editions, while retaining the professional standards and credibility associated with the awards.

Chairman of the 2026 NAJA Awards Planning Committee, Frank Kintum, said the committee was determined to deliver an event worthy of an industry undergoing rapid transformation.

According to him, the awards remain an important platform for identifying and celebrating individuals, brands and organisations whose achievements are making a measurable impact on Nigeria’s automotive sector.

He promised that the 19th edition would be “bigger and more glamorous”, with the committee paying close attention to every aspect of the ceremony.

The real battle, however, will be over the awards themselves.

Products, brands and personalities across relevant segments of the automotive industry will come under assessment, with winners emerging through the approved NAJA awards modalities.

NAJA Chairman, Theodore Opara, stressed that the awards were not designed simply to reward the biggest companies or most visible brands in the market.

Rather, he said, the objective is to recognise those that have demonstrated excellence, innovation and meaningful contributions to the development of the industry.

That distinction could make this year’s contest particularly intriguing, as established global brands increasingly face competition from Chinese manufacturers, emerging Nigerian assemblers and new players in electric mobility and alternative-energy vehicles.

The industry itself is undergoing one of its most dramatic transformations in years. Electric vehicles are gaining attention, local assembly is attracting renewed interest, Chinese brands are becoming increasingly aggressive, while changing consumer preferences and government policies are forcing established players to rethink their strategies.

Against this rapidly changing backdrop, the 2026 NAJA Awards will provide a snapshot of the brands and personalities that are winning—not merely in sales and visibility, but in innovation, customer value, technology and industry impact.

With the December 3 date now fixed, the countdown has begun.

And as the contenders emerge, one question is certain to dominate the industry conversation:

Who will walk away as Nigeria’s automotive champions of 2026?

NAJA has urged automobile brands and other stakeholders to participate actively in the awards process as the race for automotive glory gathers momentum.
