Weststar Associates Limited, the authorised distributor of Mercedes-Benz in Nigeria, has unveiled the all-new Mercedes-Benz Atego 1726, a more powerful and versatile medium-duty truck designed to raise the bar for fleet operators and logistics businesses across the country.
The new Atego 1726 replaces the widely used Atego 1725, bringing improved engineering, a more advanced drivetrain and greater operating efficiency to meet the increasing demands of Nigeria’s transport, construction, oil and gas, FMCG and municipal sectors.
Built for businesses where reliability, low operating costs and maximum vehicle uptime are critical, the latest Atego combines Mercedes-Benz durability with enhanced productivity and reduced lifetime ownership costs.
At the heart of the truck is the proven 7.2-litre OM 926 six-cylinder diesel engine, producing 256 horsepower and 900Nm of torque. It can also be equipped with Mercedes-Benz’s three-stage High-Performance Engine Brake, delivering up to 300kW of braking power for greater control on steep gradients and under heavy loads while reducing brake wear.
With a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 17.1 tonnes, the Atego 1726 offers exceptional flexibility through its chassis-cab design, making it suitable for a wide range of applications including beverage distribution, refrigerated transport, waste management, construction, oil and gas logistics, crane operations, haulage and tipper duties.
The truck also offers multiple cockpit configurations—Classic, Comfort and Standard—allowing operators to match driver comfort with operational requirements.
Speaking on the launch, Head of Commercial Vehicles at Weststar Associates Limited, Umoh Ekanem, said the new Atego reflects the company’s commitment to delivering dependable commercial vehicles for Nigerian businesses.
“The Atego has long been recognised as a dependable workhorse, and this latest model builds on that legacy by offering improved technology, greater versatility and enhanced productivity,” he said.
The Atego family enjoys a strong global reputation as one of Mercedes-Benz’s most versatile medium-duty truck ranges, and the new 1726 is expected to strengthen that position in Nigeria’s highly competitive commercial vehicle market.
Weststar said the Atego 1726 is now available through its nationwide network of authorised commercial vehicle dealerships, backed by comprehensive after-sales support, genuine spare parts and professional fleet service.
