The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has scored another major breakthrough in its drive to make Nigerian roads safer, following the recovery of a stolen Hyundai vehicle in Abuja and its subsequent handover to the Police for investigation.
The red Hyundai, with registration number YAB 789 AM, was recovered at about 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, by a tow truck team of the RS7.1 FCT Sector Command operating around Wuye, along the expressway leading to Area 1.
The breakthrough came during the team’s routine operational activities in the area. A document discovered inside the vehicle provided a crucial lead, enabling the FRSC team to trace and contact the vehicle’s owner.
Acting swiftly, the Sector Commander, RS7.1 FCT Sector Command, Corps Commander Tijjani Iliyasu, activated the inter-agency process and invited the FCT Police Command to take over the vehicle for further investigation.
The vehicle was formally handed over by DCC Sabitu Abdu, fcai, Deputy Corps Commander (Operations), to CSP Nimyel Ponfa, DPO Wuse Division, who received it on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command.
Commenting on the recovery, FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, mni, said the development demonstrated the growing importance of technology, vigilance and inter-agency cooperation in protecting lives and property.
He said the Corps would continue strengthening its vehicle identification and intelligence capabilities while working closely with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.
According to him, the recovery is also consistent with efforts to reposition the FRSC as a more technologically driven, responsive and security-conscious institution.
A major weapon in this effort is the Corps’ National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS), which is increasingly supporting vehicle verification and national security operations.
The FRSC disclosed that 81 stolen vehicles have so far been recovered through the NVIS Portal under the current administration, highlighting the growing security value of the Corps’ vehicle information infrastructure.
The Corps Marshal commended the RS7.1 FCT operational team for its vigilance and professionalism, while appreciating the FCT Police Command for its continued cooperation.
He assured Nigerians that collaboration among security agencies would remain central to the FRSC’s determination to deliver safer roads, safer vehicles and a more secure Nigeria.
