China-Nigeria Auto Alliance Gathers Momentum as NADDC, CedricMasters Seal Strategic JIM-ISUZU Deal

Nigeria’s ambition to become Africa’s automotive powerhouse received a major international endorsement this week as the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and CedricMasters Limited strengthened strategic ties with one of China’s automotive giants, Jiangling Motors Group Co. Ltd. (JMCG).

Leading a high-powered delegation to Nanchang, China, NADDC Director-General, Joseph Oluwemimo Osanipin, engaged top executives of JMCG in talks aimed at unlocking fresh opportunities in technology transfer, local component manufacturing, skills development, electric vehicle technology and long-term industrial investments for Nigeria.

The visit culminated in the signing of a landmark collaboration agreement between Jiangling Motors Group and CedricMasters Limited, promoters of the JIM-Isuzu pickup brand in Nigeria, in a move widely seen as a significant boost for the country’s automotive industrialization agenda.

The agreement is expected to accelerate local vehicle assembly operations, strengthen technical cooperation and establish a pathway towards enhanced Completely Knocked Down (CKD) support systems for vehicle production in Nigeria.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Osanipin described the partnership as a clear vote of confidence in Nigeria’s automotive sector by global industry players.

“This collaboration aligns perfectly with our vision of building a vibrant automotive industry anchored on local manufacturing, technology acquisition and sustainable investments. It represents another important milestone in our journey towards industrial transformation and economic growth,” he said.

For CedricMasters Limited, the agreement signals the beginning of a new growth phase for the JIM-Isuzu brand and its manufacturing ambitions in Nigeria.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CedricMasters Limited, Chief Anselm Ilekuba, said the partnership would extend beyond vehicle assembly to encompass technology transfer, workforce development and deeper local content participation.

“This partnership marks a new chapter for CedricMasters and the JIM-Isuzu brand. Our objective is not only to assemble vehicles but also to build local capacity, create jobs, transfer technology and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s industrial development agenda,” Ilekuba stated.

According to him, the collaboration will provide access to advanced automotive technologies while significantly enhancing the company’s production capabilities and competitiveness in the Nigerian market.

Industry analysts say the partnership could serve as a catalyst for increased foreign direct investment in Nigeria’s automotive sector, strengthen local manufacturing capacity and reinforce the country’s position as a future automotive production hub for Africa.

Osanipin commended the management of Jiangling Motors Group, CedricMasters Limited and other Nigerian automotive stakeholders for their commitment to driving industrial growth through strategic international partnerships.
