RGMotorsport Celebrates 25 years of Making BMWs faster

[dropcap]R[/dropcap]GMotorsport has been ‘m’-powering BMW owners since 1992 and has had a string of noteworthy tuning successes with the brand. Which isn’t surprising: RGM’s founder, Rob Green, qualified as a BMW technician back in 1987 and worked at various blue roundel dealerships before deciding to go it alone five years later.

The BMW M2 is hot. RGMotorsport make it hotte

The first tweaked BMW left the RGM premises soon after and Green unashamedly admits to having a soft spot for the brand. BMW fans will remember the likes of egg-yellow Tsunami, The Thing (a bright orange E92 M3 which is still talked of with reverence), and the Blue Blur – a very quick racing Land Rover Defender with a BMW straight six under the stubby bonnet.

In celebration of these and others that have gone before, RGMotorsport has added an M2 upgrade to their performance palette. It’s not their most radical car by a long shot, but gentle massaging by the RGM technical team gives it a harder edge.

In stock form the M2 makes a useful 272 kW and 465 Nm and BMW claim a 4.5 zero to 100 km/h sprint – dropping to 4.3 with the optional double-clutch 7-speed ‘box. Those numbers would’ve likely been achieved with the overboost function, which unleashes a burst of 500 Nm.

As impressive as is from the factory, an RGM customer wanted his BMW M2 to really stand out from the performance crowd – a tendency often found in petrolheads worldwide. Some go the upgrade route when new, some fiddle and twiddle along the way, and some do it later in the car’s life. But one thing is certain: they’ll do something to make their car unique.

In this instance, the customer opted for a Techniflow de-cat exhaust downpipe and plug-in power software (PPS), a combination which has seen the M2 morph into a 300 kW/580Nm beastie. It is yet to be put up against the clock but it probably get pretty close to breaking into the four-second bracket – which means there’s very little other than true exotica which will beat it away from the lights.
