In a high-stakes move that could redefine Nigeria’s automotive future, the National Automotive Design and Development Council has teamed up with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council to fast-track local component production.
At a strategic meeting in Abuja on May 5, 2026, NADDC boss Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin sounded the alarm on Nigeria’s dependence on imported auto parts, pushing for aggressive use of locally sourced materials backed by stronger research and development.
RMRDC Director General Nnayelugo Ikemounso echoed the urgency, pledging full support to unlock Nigeria’s raw material potential for automotive production.
Behind the scenes, both agencies are eyeing a sweeping integration of local technicians, the informal sector, and national logistics systems, moves that could dramatically reshape the industry’s value chain.
If executed, the alliance signals more than collaboration; it’s a bold bid to rebuild Nigeria’s auto sector from the ground up using homegrown resources.
