Honda Automobile Western Africa Limited (HAWAL) has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Nigeria, expressing confidence in the country’s vast automotive potential and unveiling plans for sustained growth across its mobility businesses.

Managing Director of HAWAL, Mr. Daisuke Mita, disclosed this in an interview with Motoring World, where he highlighted Honda’s more than four decades of uninterrupted presence in Nigeria and the company’s determination to remain a key player in the nation’s transportation ecosystem.

According to Mita, Honda’s vision extends beyond automobiles to encompass motorcycles, power products and other mobility solutions designed to improve everyday life.

“Honda is unique in that we operate across automobiles, motorcycles and power products. Our mission goes beyond cars. We support people’s lives across multiple forms of mobility,” he said.

The HAWAL boss noted that Nigeria remains one of the most strategic markets in West Africa, citing its growing population, expanding transportation needs and long-term economic potential as key factors underpinning Honda’s confidence in the country.

Despite prevailing economic challenges, Mita said Honda continues to see enormous opportunities in Nigeria and remains committed to building a sustainable business that creates jobs, expands access to mobility and delivers value to customers.

He revealed that the company is pursuing a long-term growth strategy aimed at strengthening its position as a comprehensive mobility provider while leveraging Honda’s global expertise and technological strengths.

Mita described Honda’s resilience in Nigeria as a reflection of both the company’s philosophy and the determination of Nigerians themselves.

“One remarkable aspect is the resilience of Nigerians. Despite the challenges, people remain hardworking and determined. This aligns closely with Honda’s own philosophy,” he stated.

Highlighting Honda’s competitive strengths, he said the company’s vehicles have earned a reputation for durability, safety, fuel efficiency and strong resale value. He also pointed to Honda’s five-year free maintenance programme as part of the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction.

Beyond automobiles, Mita emphasized the critical role Honda’s motorcycles, generators and agricultural power equipment play in supporting transportation, energy access and food production across the country.

On corporate social responsibility, he disclosed that Honda recently empowered women farmers in South-West Nigeria through the donation of agricultural equipment, including land-tilling machines, water pumps and motorised backpack sprayers aimed at improving productivity and livelihoods.

Looking ahead, Mita confirmed that Honda has plans to expand its operations and introduce additional products into the Nigerian market as conditions continue to improve.

He also expressed optimism that continued collaboration between industry stakeholders and government would further unlock the potential of Nigeria’s automotive sector, attract more investment and support the growth of local vehicle assembly.

“Our long-term vision is to meet domestic demand and continue building a sustainable business. We still strongly believe in the future of our operations here,” Mita affirmed.

With over 40 years of continuous presence in Nigeria, Honda’s enduring confidence in the market underscores the company’s belief that the country’s mobility needs, youthful population and entrepreneurial spirit will continue to create opportunities for growth in the years ahead.
