Fraudsters are posing as the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), using his name, pictures and photographs from official events to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
The Council raised the alarm in a public notice, warning that the impostors approach potential victims through social media and telephone conversations in a deliberate bid to defraud them.
Behind the official-looking photographs is a dangerous deception: the people making these approaches have no authority to represent the NADDC boss.
The Council identified 09169880958 as one telephone number allegedly being used by an impostor to contact members of the public.
It urged Nigerians to ignore approaches and requests from the fraudsters, adding that official complaints had been lodged with the appropriate law enforcement agencies for investigation.
NADDC also advised the public to contact the Council and its Director-General only through verified social media handles.
Its warning is clear: an official photograph does not establish the identity of the person behind a message or telephone call.
