There were emotional scenes at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, on Thursday, June 4, 2026, as the late Autoglobe Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Babatunde Bola Ojo, was posthumously honoured with Broadcast Excellence Award during the grand celebration of Motoring World @30.
The prestigious recognition celebrated the remarkable legacy of the veteran motoring broadcaster, whose unwavering passion, professionalism and decades of advocacy transformed transport and automotive broadcasting in Nigeria. Through his influential voice on the airwaves, Bola Ojo championed road safety, mobility and the growth of the nation’s automotive industry, earning the admiration of industry stakeholders and the listening public alike.
The colourful anniversary event attracted an impressive gathering of government officials, automotive industry captains, transport experts, motoring journalists, corporate executives and other key stakeholders, all united in celebrating three decades of Motoring World’s outstanding contributions to automotive journalism and industry development.
Presenting the award, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Motoring World, Femi Owoeye, described the late broadcaster as a towering figure whose impact on the industry remains impossible to ignore.
According to Owoeye, the Posthumous Broadcast Excellence Award was a fitting tribute to a broadcasting legend whose commitment to motoring and transport journalism inspired generations of professionals.
“The Posthumous Broadcast Excellence Award bestowed on the late Babatunde Bola Ojo is our way of preserving the legacy of a man whose dedication to motoring and transport broadcasting inspired generations.
“He used the microphone not merely to inform but to educate, advocate and promote safer roads and a stronger automotive industry. Though he is no longer with us, his impact continues to resonate across the industry, and we believe his remarkable contributions deserve to be remembered and celebrated.”
Owoeye further explained that the Motoring World @30 celebration was conceived not only to mark the publication’s milestone anniversary but also to recognise exceptional individuals whose vision, integrity and commitment have significantly advanced Nigeria’s automotive sector.
Bola Ojo’s posthumous honour stood out as one of the defining moments of the evening, joining a distinguished list of awards presented to outstanding personalities and organisations that have played pivotal roles in shaping Nigeria’s transport, mobility and automotive landscape over the past three decades.
The landmark celebration also featured a keynote address by former Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, alongside industry reflections and special honours for accomplished automotive journalists, business leaders and corporate organisations.
The event reinforced Motoring World’s enduring commitment to celebrating excellence, preserving industry legacies and driving sustainable growth across Nigeria’s automotive ecosystem—while ensuring that the extraordinary contributions of icons like Babatunde Bola Ojo continue to inspire future generations.
