Nigeria’s pickup segment just got a serious shake-up. Carloha Nigeria, the authorised dealer of Chery vehicles, has dramatically unveiled the all-new Chery Himla pickup at a high-profile launch on Orange Island, Lekki, Lagos and the message was loud and clear: the era of the ordinary pickup is over.
Positioned as more than just a utility vehicle, the Himla bursts into the Nigerian market as a high-efficiency mobile business asset, purpose-built for commerce, agriculture, logistics and cross-border trade. With Nigeria’s economy expanding and operators demanding more productivity per trip, the Himla arrives like a machine designed for the moment.
Managing Director of Carloha Nigeria, Mr. Sola Adigun, set the tone at the launch:“Today’s launch represents a key milestone, with Himla engineered to enhance efficiency and productivity for security outfits, farmers, logistics operators, entrepreneurs and others.”
At the heart of the Himla’s appeal is its class-leading 1,276-litre cargo bed (1,530 mm × 1,620 mm × 515 mm), engineered to swallow standard industrial pallets in a single load. The intelligently optimised chassis and suspension reduce wheel-arch intrusion, delivering a flatter, more usable cargo floor that screams efficiency.
Integrated side and rear steps further simplify loading, a small but powerful detail that commercial operators will appreciate in high-pressure work environments.
Underneath, the Himla rides on a high-strength ladder frame paired with reinforced rear-spring suspension. The result are: payload exceeding 1,000 kg, towing muscle of up to 3 tonnes and stability engineered for heavy-duty operations
From construction sites to refrigerated logistics runs, this pickup is clearly hunting in serious territory.
The Himla isn’t just about muscle; it’s built for survival. With advanced 4×4 capability and a commanding 265 mm ground clearance, the pickup is engineered to tackle rough job sites, remote farms and punishing rural roads without breaking a sweat.
Inside, the cabin flips the script on traditional work trucks. Premium leather seating, a massive 15.6-inch central touchscreen, and a 9.2-inch digital cluster deliver a surprisingly upscale experience. Higher trims add advanced driver-assistance systems, while rear-seat comfort gets unusual attention for a pickup in this class.
Guests, including motoring journalists, customers and auto enthusiasts had a ride in the Himla over simulated terrains, experiencing its 4×4 prowess, hill angles, towing, payload stability, in-cabin quietness, rear-seat comfort, and water-wading ability.
Early impressions suggested a pickup eager to prove it belongs in Nigeria’s toughest duty cycles.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Felix Mahan, General Manager, Marketing at Carloha Nigeria, described the Himla as a cornerstone product in Chery’s global pickup offensive.
He emphasised the model’s blend of class-leading cargo capacity, hardcore load ability, advanced technology and climate-adapted engineering, all targeted squarely at Nigerian entrepreneurs looking for dependable business tools.
In a nod to local conditions, the Himla comes fortified with wear-resistant and anti-corrosion materials, galvanised steel components, high-strength body panels, climate-adapted engineering for heat and humidity as well as multiple heavy-duty cargo anchoring points.
Perhaps the loudest confidence statement: a class-leading six-year warranty, underscoring Carloha’s aggressive push for buyer trust.
With the Himla’s arrival, Carloha isn’t just launching another pickup, it is reframing the pickup conversation in Nigeria.
The company is betting big that modern businesses want more than transport; they want mobile productivity platforms capable of scaling operations, cutting trips and boosting margins.
If early signals from the Orange Island debut hold true, the Himla may have just driven straight into the heart of Nigeria’s commercial vehicle battlefield. And it didn’t come quietly.
