All-new Electric Mercedes G-Class Set for World Premiere

TILDA FRANCES

Not later than next Tuesday, the anticipated all-new Electric-powered, Mercedes-Benz G-Class will be unveiled to the world.

We do not know when Weststar, Nigeria’s franchisee for the brand, plans to unleash the machine into the nation’s luxury auto market, but we can authoritatively report that all is set for its launch in the United States and China.

What we also know is that the new G-Class  500 Electric did not only come with an improved performance, thanks to electrified drives, modern assistance systems, increased comfort and increased digitalization, it impresses under all operating conditions.

With the combination of high ground clearance, long suspension travel, the proven ladder frame concept and mechanical differential locks continue to ensure impressive handling characteristics, the new G-Class 500 is a strong contender for the automotive king of the jungle.

Styling

The characteristic silhouette remains the same with the all-new G-Class. Only subtle modifications have been made to the iconic design: at the front, there is a new radiator grille with four horizontal louvres. The sodalite blue metallic paint colour is available for the first time. There is also a choice of black running boards and new wheel designs in sizes from 18 to 20 inches.

The striking door handle design and the characteristic closing sound of the doors remain unchanged – but have been technologically updated.

The MANUFAKTUR range for extensive customization of exterior and interior features has been extended once again: among other things, the two-tone leather upholstery in MANUFAKTUR Catalana beige/black is available for the first time. The MANUFAKTUR full leather package is available on request.

Equipment

The G-Class update is accompanied by the integration of KEYLESS-GO: the system makes it possible for the doors to be unlocked and locked without having to hold the key in your hand.

Like all other model variants, the all-new G 500 is equipped with the MBUX infotainment system. A steering wheel of the latest generation, which is also used in other Mercedes-Benz model series, as well as temperature-controlled cup holders and a wireless charging system for mobile devices have been introduced.

The Burmester® 3D surround sound system with an additional, illuminated satellite loudspeaker in the headliner enables the immersive Dolby Atmos® audio experience. The MBUX High-End Rear-Seat Entertainment system is available to entertain the occupants in the rear seats.

Safety

Additional and enhanced safety and assistance systems round off the overall its presence. However, new to the G-Class, for example, is Active Steering Assist, which supports drivers in the speed range up to 160 km/h with moderate steering interventions when steering the vehicle in the centre of the lane. This can provide relief, especially on monotonous stretches of road.

Established in 1979, the G-Wagon Series, by the latest edition, is believed to have raised the bar for real adventure on and off the road.

Offering the most diverse drive portfolio of all time, a variety of customization options, increased digitalization and additional comfort and off-road functions, the G-Class, over the years, retained its unmistakable off-road character and typical appearance to this day.

The new G 500 is no exception. As a mild hybrid with 48-volt technology, it now offers even better response and more on-road comfort. For adventures off the beaten track, there are three additional driving programmes to choose from. There is also a new OFFROAD COCKPIT.

The new Mercedes-AMG G 63 is also celebrating its world premiere – and is more AMG than ever before. It underpins its unique position with the powerful drive, the new AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL chassis and unmistakable details for an independent appearance. It also benefits from further, cross-model innovations.

Commenting on the upcoming unveil, the Mercedes-Benz maker has this to say:  “Members of the G-Class Private Lounge, who own their own G-Class and have registered their vehicle in our system will have the opportunity to take part in our first, exclusive online Live Talk on April 18th.

“Our G-Class product experts will answer all your questions about the new models for an hour.”
