The Director General National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) Mr Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin has been conferred with “Courageous Leadership Award” in view of his dedication and contributions towards developing the Nigeria Automotive Industry.
The Award was bestowed on him at the 10th Nigeria Transport Lecture, held at Radisson Blu Hotel Ikeja Lagos, on Thursday 23rd May 2023.
Presenting a paper on “Transportation Safety in Nigeria: The Way Forward”, the Director General who was ably represented by the Director Policy, Planning and Statistics of the Council Mr. Musa M. Sani commended President Ahmed Tinubu on the adoption of the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered vehicles in Nigeria.
“We commend the Federal Government under the leadership of President Tinubu for prioritizing the transport sector in Nigeria by adopting CNG-Powered Vehicles. This decision is a wise economic choice that will promote self-reliance in fuel consumption” he said.
To this end, the Director General disclosed that the NADDC has started accreditation and certification of CNG- powered vehicle conversion workshops in Nigeria, in a concerted effort to ensure safety in the sector. He called on those interested in the Conversion business to approach the NADDC for registration and accreditation procedures, as the NADDC would not compromise quality service delivery in any conversion workshop.
Similarly, he mentioned that the Council has established three Auto laboratory test centres in Lagos, Enugu and Kaduna to ensure standardization and safety of vehicles driven on Nigerian roads.
According to him, the NADDC in its efforts to ensure safety has also established about 22 automotive training centres across the country. He said the training centres are equipped with state of the art facility for training of auto technicians on acquisition of modern skills needed for proper repairs and maintenance of vehicles, adding that over 6,000 Youth have been trained nationwide.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Editor, Transport Day News, Mr. Frank Kintum stated that the Nigeria Transport Lecture is an annual event necessitated by the need to provide an avenue where all stakeholders in the industry could come together and discuss contemporary issues that affect the industry.
In his words, “In the past, we had discussed other issues, but this year we are discussing safety because of its importance in transportation”.
