Miss Soweto 2020 Drives Away In a New Toyota Starlet

The winner of the 2020 Miss Soweto beauty pageant, Thobile Steyn, drove away in brand-new Toyota Starlet from the competition.

Steyn, who incidentally celebrated her 21st birthday on the day of the event, is studying Politics and International Relations at the University of Johannesburg.

Her runners up were first princess Anathi Conjwa and second princess Kutloano Moloi.

In addition to being the vehicle sponsor of the winner of the 2020 Miss Soweto, Toyota South Africa has also pledged an amount of R10 000 (about N250,000) to be donated to Steyn’s charity of choice.

According to company’s Senior Manager of Promotions and Events at TSAM, Reché van Niekerk: “As one of the country’s leading vehicle manufacturers, we also have a responsibility towards the communities we live in. It is for that reason that we partnered with Miss Soweto – so that we can shape young women into respectable ambassadors and champions of women’s rights.”

The contest saw no less than 20 beauties strutting their stuff as well as fielding some tough questions from the esteemed panel of judges at the Soweto Theatre on Saturday. The 2020 Miss Soweto was judged by broadcaster, businesswoman and 2002 Miss South Africa runner-up Bridget Masinga; former fashion editor and blogger Grace Mantjiu; award-winning singer/songwriter Judith Sephuma; as well as TSAM’s representative Buyisiwe Khanyile.

What could have been ordinarily a momentous beauty extravaganza was scaled back to observe COVID-19 regulations. Strict protocols were in place, including the temperature checks and sanitisation at the entrance to the venue. The Soweto Theatre in Jabulani (Soweto) has the capacity to host 435 guests, but was only limited to 110 on the day of the event.

Miss Soweto will screen on Soweto TV (DStv Channel 251) at 6pm on 5 December 2020 as well as on Mzansi Wethu (DStv Channel 163) at 6pm on 12 and 13 December 2020.
