Kia Recalls 295,000 Vehicles over Fire Risk

Kia Motor Corporation has recalled 295000 vehicles, because an engine compartment fire can occur while driving the affected vehicles.

The recall, which is limited to the versions on sale in the United States include: some 2012-2013 model year Sorento, 2011-2013 Optima Hybrid, 2014-2015 Soul and 2012 Sportage vehicles.

Once the owners of the affected vehicles drop them with dealers, the latter are expected to inspect the engine compartment for fuel or oil leaks, perform an engine test and make any repairs including engine replacement, as necessary.

Kia said it is currently developing a Knock Sensor Detection System software update.

It would be recalled that the US’ National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) last year (2019),opened an investigation into non-crash fires in the said Kia vehicles and advised the automaker to recall certain models with a higher fire complaint rate.

In a statement released on Saturday, Kia said “based on NHTSA’s recommendation” it had made the “decision to recall certain Kia vehicles as a preventative measure to mitigate any potential fire risk.”
