[dropcap]M[/dropcap]otorsport fans can now put their driving skills to the test in a real NASCAR thanks to the American Race Car Experience (ARCX).
Based at the Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby, Northamptonshire, ARCX is the first such experience in Europe that allows petrolheads to get behind the wheel of one of the stars from the popular race series.
The experience has a dozen race cars sourced directly from the NASCAR teams, several of which were actually entered in the Sprint Cup last year by Danica Patrick among others. The range includes Toyota Camrys, Ford Fusions and Chevrolet Impalas, in addition to Tom Cruise’s car from the 1990 film, Days of Thunder.
With powerful V8 engines and 450hp beneath the hood, the cars can reach top speeds of 175mph.
Before taking to the driver’s seat, participants will have a ride-along with a race instructor to show them how to get the most out of their car.
Blair DuPree, owner and founder, ARCX, said: “Many people across the world have watched the NASCAR series, but very few have had the chance to actually experience it first hand. We wanted to give fans an opportunity to feel the power and performance of these incredible machines from the best possible position – the driver’s seat.”
Driving experience packages range from £499 for the ‘Pole Position’ package consisting of eight hot laps, to £3,699 for the ‘Advanced Track Day’, which includes passing and side-by-side racing in an 80-lap programme.
For those who would prefer to take to the track as a passenger, a ride-along option is also available for £99.
