Rolls Royce of the next century will lay red carpet on the road, whenever its owner is about to alight and might even make cup of tea, for it will be so intelligent that it will perform every task by itself, including driving, writes MATILDA FRANCES
[dropcap]C[/dropcap]onservatively, Rolls Royce has not built a concept car since the last 112 years, when it commenced operations. As various auto makers showcased their future automobiles in recent years, questions had been asked as to what Rolls Royce plans to serve its traditional customers in future. Well, an answer is on ground.
Rolls Royce is going the same direction as other auto makers, but with a crazy departure in packaging. Named after Eleanor Thornton, the model who inspired the auto maker’s famous logo, the future Rolls Royce is best described as automotive extremism.
Styling
When one looks at it for the first time, one is reminded of the Citroen of old, which would cover its wheels, as a fowl does for its few-day-old chicks. Until there is test-drive opportunity, the car would not but look wired to an auto enthusiast.
Interior
Inside the next century Rolls, you can’t miss its massive panorama window, which lightens up the entire environment from light penetrating from the sun. Beyond that, it has got soft silk upholstery as well as silk carpet.
Ride and handling?
No. No. No. Built on a lightweight platform that uses an all-electric drivetrain for power, according to its maker, the future car will need no driver, being autonomous, what one loves to call driverless car.
Giles Taylor, design director of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars says the mind of the super-luxury auto-making company: “With the Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT 100 we were very mindful not to dwell on the past. We wanted to be as innovative as possible and at the same time transcend the design history of the marquee.”
Since Rolls Royce is traditionally targeted at Royalties and Very Important personalities, the next Century Autonomous Rolls will go beyond driving its owner around.
Red Carpet
When a destination is reached and its occupant is about to alight, it will project out a red carpet for the VIP to walk on.
Kind of robot, isn’t it?
