The Federal Road safety Corps (FRSC) has vowed to keep Nigerian roads safer during Yuletide and New Year celebration across the country.
The FRSC’S Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, gave the assurance on Saturday while addressing participants at the 5th Nigerian Auto Journalists Association’s (NAJA) annual training workshop held at The Golden Tulip Hotel, International Airport Road Lagos.
Represented by the Corps public Enlightenment Officer, ACM Bisi Kazeem, the FRSC boss solicited for cooperation of road users towards achieving the corps’ goal of accident-free season.
He said: “As we commence this year’s end of year special patrol towards the successful Christmas and new year celebrations in the face of threats of second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, I wish to assure the nation that we would be unrelenting in our commitment to safer road environment through sustained campaigns.
“But we require the support and cooperation of members of the public particularly the auto Journalists to achieve the desired goals. This is because creating understanding and compliance with the rules is strategic to achieving the success we require.”
FRSC also extolled the role of motoring journalists in helping the FRSC to publicize its awareness creation messages, expressing the corps’ determination to sustain the existing partnership built with the motoring media over the years.
He stressed: “We would also strive to build stronger synergy based on regular consultation, awareness creation and trust that could facilitate the roles we individually play in ensuring safety of lives and property of road users on the nation’s highways.
“Furthermore, we would continue to provide professional training to our personnel in managing the operations of the National Traffic Radio, which we established last year to promote the messages of road safety to members of the public through efficient information dissemination strategy as well as provision of updates on the conditions of the road nationwide.
“Through the medium, other emergencies can also be reported for prompt response by relevant agencies. Consequently, we hope to build on the public awareness creation, creating sensitization programmes and achieving overall safety and security of lives and property for enhanced national development.
To this end, Oyeyemi called for a sustained support of the Nigerian motoring journalists in reporting the corps’ activities, “creating the and proper use of the road for members of the public to realize that road traffic crashes don’t just happen; they are caused and can be prevented with strict adherence to the rules of the road by the motorists.”
