In a renewed drive to reposition Nigeria’s automotive sector for global competitiveness, the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and members of the House of Representatives Committee on Industry on Monday embarked on a strategic oversight visit to leading vehicle assembly plants in Lagos State.
The exercise held on October 14, 2025, underscored government’s commitment to stimulating industrial growth and strengthening local manufacturing through more effective policy implementation and private sector partnerships.
Led by NADDC Director-General, Chief (Otunba) Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, and Committee Chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Enitan Dolapo Badru, the team visited CIG Motors, DAG Bajaj, and Simba Group (TVS)—three key players in Nigeria’s automotive value chain, collectively driving innovation, employment, and mobility access across the country.
At each stop, the delegation inspected assembly lines for motorcycles, tricycles and modern vehicles, gaining firsthand insight into local production processes, capacity utilisation, and challenges confronting assemblers. Discussions focused on issues of component localisation, infrastructure support, skills development and financing—factors seen as critical to Nigeria’s journey toward full automotive industrialisation.
Speaking after the inspection, Chief Osanipin reaffirmed NADDC’s determination to deepen local content participation, promote technology transfer and expand sustainable manufacturing. He stressed that the Council’s current initiatives are aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at turning Nigeria into a hub for automotive innovation and export within Africa.
On his part, Hon. Badru applauded the Council’s progress and assured that the National Assembly would continue to provide legislative support to ensure the success of local assemblers and investors operating within the sector.
The Lagos visit marked Day One of the Committee’s wider engagement with automotive industry stakeholders nationwide, a process designed to strengthen accountability, address operational bottlenecks, and fast-track the realization of Nigeria’s automotive industrialization vision.
