Kia Motors has suspended production at all of its factories near Seoul from late on Wednesday, as eight of its workers have tested positive for the new coronavirus, a union official said.
The factory produces Kia’s Carnival SUV and its Rio small car, among other models.
One of the leading South Korean carmaker, Kia Motors produces approximately 2.8 million passenger, RV, and commercial vehicles annually. Its manufacturing footprint spans nearly 10 assembly plants across South Korea, the US, China, India, Europe, and Mexico.
The company’s vehicle line-up includes the Kia Picanto, the K-series sedans, the Sorrento SUV, and the Forte. While it manufactures majority of its autos in South Korea, North America is its single largest market.
