The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has been decorated with the 2025 Road Safety Champion Award by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), in recognition of his transformative leadership and unwavering commitment to a safer motoring ecosystem across Nigeria.
The honour, presented during the NAOSNP National Conference and Awards in Lagos, underscored Mohammed’s strategic reforms in traffic management, heightened enforcement standards, and vigorous public-safety advocacy—efforts widely credited with strengthening Nigeria’s road transportation framework.
NAOSNP National President, Mayor Oki Samson, used the gathering to highlight the increasingly decisive role of the media—especially digital security platforms—in bolstering national resilience amid complex security threats, misinformation, and fast-evolving technologies. He called for deeper collaboration between security agencies and the media to enhance accurate, responsible, and timely reporting that supports national stability.
Representing the former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, Air Vice Marshal Bashir Rimi Mamman stressed the symbiotic link between security, governance, and national development. He urged unity, professionalism, and collective action to safeguard Nigeria’s future, noting that the conference highlights the indispensable role of the media in national security architecture.
In his presentation on the theme, Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Lagos, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, described security as the backbone of economic growth. Speaking on “Securing and Safeguarding Nigeria’s Economic Resources,” he emphasized aligning security operations with economic priorities, strengthening identity systems, entrenching institutional ethics, and forging stronger cross-sector collaboration to protect both tangible and intangible national assets.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Corps Marshal, the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, reaffirmed FRSC’s resolve to deepen safety reforms nationwide. He noted that road transport remains the lifeblood of national logistics, warning that crashes continue to pose threats to supply chains and operational efficiency.
In his message, Corps Marshal Mohammed pledged to intensify reforms in road safety enforcement and traffic management as government investments in national infrastructure expand. He urged the media to amplify public awareness, uphold professionalism, and support the shared mission of saving lives on Nigerian roads. He dedicated the award to FRSC personnel nationwide.
The event also celebrated the FRSC’s Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, honoured as NAOSNP Best Security Agency Spokesperson of the Year.
Dignitaries at the ceremony included representatives of the former Chief of Defence Staff; the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam; AIG Adegoke Fayoade; and the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, among others.
