Easter: FRSC Subjects Drivers to Fitness Test

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]s part of activities towards ensuring safety of lives during Easter celebration, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday subjected drivers as well as their vehicles to fitness tests.

A team of FRSC personnel) led by Mr Imoh Etuk , Public Education Officer, carried out the fitness test at various motor parks in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In addition to enlightening motorists about road safety rules to reduce crashes during the Good Friday and Easter Monday holidays, the FRSC team also checked the fitness of drivers to ensure that they were fit to ply the road, and also educate them on the basics of road safety.

The team used breathalyzers to detect drunk drivers and those that had smoked.

While inspecting vehicles and checking if the tyres and their placements were in order, the team discovered that some drivers were not in the right frame of the mind to ply the road.

Addressing the drivers, Mr. Etuk urged them to avoid being issued fake license by visiting sparing time visit FRSC office to be captured personally for driver’s licence, instead of going through a third-party.

He said: “It is a good thing that most of you are free from alcohol, so you can drive and that means that your passengers are in good hands.

“There is also need for you to know how to fix your tyres correctly, not putting the left tyre in the right hand side and vice versa.”

In his remarks, Mr Michael Adeyeye, Assistant General Secretary, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), FCT Chapter, urged members of his union to drive safely during this season, reminding them to always think about their loved ones, as “the dead cannot celebrate.”
