[dropcap]A[/dropcap]midst dwindling oil prices and shaky economy, another automotive assembly plant has opened in Nigeria, this time located at the heart of Ikeja, the capital of Lagos State.
Established by PERFECTION Motors Company Limited, member of the Lee group in Nigeria, in collaboration with a Chinese automaker, FAW, one of China’s biggest and most prestigious heavy duty vehicles manufacturers, the plant will produce heavy duty trucks from Semi-Knocked-Down (SKD) parts.
Also unveiled were new showroom and workshop.
Present at the occasion were the Acting Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Li Yong and Director of Policy and Planning, National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Luqman Mamudu
The new Chinese faw truck assembly joint venture with lee company in Nigeria was a reaffirmation that Nigeria poised to become an automotive nub of Africa.Some factors working in favor of the country are , population, available local skill labor and unskilled , labor,strategical natural location of Nigeria to other African countries, labor cost,and available raw materials. Government at all level and company operating in the country has no business of importation vehicle any longer.The local make vehicle should be affordable to Nigerians and African at large and must meet international standard such that used vehicle buyer seen decline over the next few years.
