[dropcap]I [/dropcap]am a very loyal consumer when it comes to sticking to a particular product that I have tested and it is good. But my finding about Maxxis tyre make me think that I should also look at other alternatives especially if the product is of the same quality and probably make a shift if need be.
Though, it is not as popular as other well-known tyres in Nigeria like Dunlop, Michelin, Pirelli, Bridgestone and based on my research on the product, Maxxis tyre is one of the most reliable and dependable tyre in the world. It is driven to meet customer needs and surpass expectation. Produced to last longer, perform better and deliver superior value, Maxxis is just going to keep getting better because there are over 700 people working relentlessly on research and development.
It comes from the stable of Cheng Chin Rubber Industry Company, the 9th largest Tyre Company worldwide and also one of the world’s most trusted tyre brand. With it’s headquarter in Georgia, United States, Maxxis is distributed in over 170 countries around the world. It may be one of the newest tyres distributed in Nigeria; it’s been existing since 1967.
Late last year, I stumbled on this product at Automedics Autofest 2015, where I had a chat with Mr Segun Oluwakoya, Managing Director, Tyrbats Nigeria Limited, , a major representative of Maxxis in Nigeria. He said Maxxis is one of the brands of tyres they sell.’ We are primarily at the maiden edition of Automedics Autofest to showcase Maxxis’.
Uniqueness Of MAXXIS
When asked what is unique about Maxxis in comparison to other brands, Mr.Oluwakoya said: “the interesting thing about Maxxis is that it is one of the top ten tyres all over the world and it compare favourably with the like of Michelin, Bridgestone and Dunlop.’ One other good thing about the brand is the size. We have quite a number of sizes on the range. We have the car sizes, light truck, van, heavy duty and special equipment tyres.”
According to Stanley Onyemechi testimony, a tyre seller on Awolowo way, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria, ‘‘Maxxis is a very dependable tyre.
“Most transporters especially the interstate transporters found it very reliable,” he explained. “In comparison to Pirelli, Dunlop, Michelin and others, they are equal. Those tyres (referring to Michelin, Dunlop and others) are just names but Maxxis is highly dependable. The uniqueness is its rubber. It is very strong.’’
Pricing
Based on the statement issued in Maxxis Tyres International website, the organization is committed to delivering high performance affordable tyres to the world.
“Our brand is a brand that provides the latest technology, safety, durability and comfort at affordable prices,” added the statement, which was corroborated by Oluwakoya: “Maxxis is very good and affordable. You can see the one that will not injure your pocket and still get value for your money. Like I used to tell people, if you go to popular interstate garages in this country and try to do a kind of survey, you will find out that this particular brand have 50%, while others have 80% in terms of patronage. It is a brand that has been in this country for a decade and it is well accepted and the quality is excellent. As a matter of fact, one of the unique selling points is 100% quality and trust and 100% service.”
Though, the price of Maxxis may have gone a little bit high now, because of high foreign exchange, it is still reasonable. If you go to some local tyre shops, Maxxis sell at reasonable price compared to other tyres. Mr. Onyemechi, who manage a tyre shop said, it is just a difference of about N1,500 to N2,000 lower than other well- known tyre which has the same quality with it.’’
You may be able to get Maxxis for between N15,000 to N17,000 for Sedan and N35,000 to N37,000 for SUV respectively; depending also on the sizes of the tyres.
If what I deduced from my research is anything to go by, it won’t be long before Maxxis takes over the market from the likes of Michelin and Dunlop. This is, however, subject to the ability of Maxxis International to enhance the brand in Nigeria by doing more in terms of the product visibility in the market and promotion.
