CNG Initiative: Nigerian Government Empowers 2000 Youths with CNG Tricycles

The Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNG-i ) and the Federal Ministry of Youth have distributed Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered tricycles to 2000 youths.

The event, attended by the Director General National Automotive Design and Development Council, Mr Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin and other key government officials, aims to transform the Nigeria Automotive Industry by reducing transportation costs and empowering the youth.

In his keynote address, Engr. Michael Olugbemi, PI-CNG Programme Director, highlighted the initiative’s significance. “A year ago, the President committed to improving the lives of Nigerians by implementing the Presidential Compressed Gas Initiative, which will lessen our reliance on petrol and decrease government spending on fuel subsidies,” he stated.

Hon. Ayodele Olawande Wisdom, State Minister of Youth, praised the initiative as a step towards involving youth in sustainable transportation. He emphasized efforts to reach out to tricycle owners and operators, noting, “All tricycle riders and owners are part of the youth of this country.”

Also in attendance was Dr. Maurice Nnamdi Mbaeri, Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who reiterated the initiative’s goal to empower young people across the nation. He confirmed that while the program commenced in Abuja, plans are in place to expand to other states in the country.

Other notable attendees included Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Honourable Minister of State for Youth Development, and Alhaji Usman Ngwoza, President of the National Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Association, who delivered messages of support for the initiative.

The launch aligns with the effort and commitment of the NADDC to enhance economic well-being through greener transportation options and fostering youth participation in sustainable development across Nigeria.
