Nigerian Government Distributes 1000 CNG Conversion Kits, Cylinders

The Nigerian government has distributed 1000 Compressed Natural Gas CNG Kits and Cylinders out of which 450 were sent to the FCT and Kaduna state, while Lagos, Oyo and Ogun states received 550.

The distribution which took place at a warehouse in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, was conducted by officials of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, P-CNGI.

Speaking at the distribution site, the representative of the P-CNGI, Moses Onate said the initiative was to help the country reduce the burden of hike in the price of fuel and ease transportation across the country.

While x-raying the importance of the initiative, Onate disclosed that the distribution of the CNG conversion kits and cylinders would serve as a relief to reduce transportation stress, adding that transporters would enjoy concessionary prices for gas usage.

According to him, “in the long run, Nigerians will be enjoying cheaper cost of gas and if the Nigeria factor doesn’t set in, it will seriously have positive impact on the citizens as Mr President has ensured to give concessionary pricing for gas. This is to ensure that you are filling your vehicles with gas at the rate of N230 and N300/kg. We have ten and more conversion centres in Lagos alone.

Reacting to the ripple effect of subsidy removal, Onate explained that the conversion kits and cylinders were for commercial vehicles that constitute a very large percentage of the transport sector.

The presidential initiative on the CNG started some months ago with the distribution of 30,000 CNG conversion kits in 90 days and it was extended to commercial bus operators in the south west after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had promised the labour Unions and other Nigerians that he would provide 36 CNG buses with 100 seating capacity each for workers.
