The federal government of Nigeria is working towards maximizing the production of the steel industry, the Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, has revealed.
Speaking during two-day working tour of KAM Holding Ltd in Kwara State, Nigeria, the Minister expressed the present administration’s resolve to harness the nation’s steel for economic growth and to revitalize the nation’s steel sector to meet both local and international consumption.
He expressed his willingness to support indigenous steel companies in the country to produce optimally to meet both local and international consumption and to provide millions of jobs for Nigerians.
The Steel Development Minister said the working tour is “to encourage them as well as address pertinent challenges they may be facing.”
He also noted that the Ministry, under his watch, would ensure the revival of the Steel Sector and make it work.
During his visit, the Minister also paid a courtesy visit to the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq, who expressed his commitment towards attaining the mandate of the Ministry.
The Governor highlighted that without getting the Steel Sector right, Nigeria cannot be industrialized.
The Minister noted that the Present Administration is committed to ensuring the nation’s steel sector begins to work to revitalise the economy for the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the nation.
He said “We are here to show support to indigenous Steel Companies that can help provide millions of jobs for Nigerians. The Steel Sector when properly harnessed, can provide large-scale jobs for the people and industrialize the country.”
He added that it was high time we ensured that “Nigeria is working for Nigerians”
The Vice Chairman of KAM Holding Ltd, Dr Iyadunni Bolanle Yusuf, appealed to the Ministry to protect the indigenous steel manufacturing sector, as it plays a critical role in the growth and development of the country by providing materials for building infrastructures, automobiles, engineering, defence as well as being the bedrock of industrialization.

The Minister’s visit was intended to encourage indigenous steel companies, address challenges they may be facing, and woo foreign investors.
The Minister also paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
