The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is partnering with the Joint Tax Board (JTB) to address challenges in-vehicle data collation.
The collaboration will also tackle issues affecting the uploading of Drivers Licences and distribution.
The Corps Marshal of FRSC, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, said this during a workshop for State Directors and Desk Officers on motor licensing and National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said that the success of the collaboration would impact positively on national planning and security.
Oyeyemi, represented by Deputy Corps Marshal, Motor Vehicle Administration, Hyginus Fuomsuk, added that the collaboration would enhance the capacity and competence of officials handling the NVIS.
According to him, the close collaboration between FRSC and JTB over the years has translated into a robust database of vehicles and drivers’ information in the country.
Oyeyemi, however, said there was still a need to maintain and build the national vehicle registry by strengthening the working relationship between motor licensing officers and FRSC NVIS desk officers.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the workshop was: “Motor Vehicle Registration Data Management; A Veritable Tool for Improved National Planning and Security”.
The Chairman of JTB, Mr Muhammed Nami, said that data collation and management had been a challenge in the country.
Nami was represented by the Coordinating Director, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr Mohammed Abubakar.
He said that it was important to have reliable data on vehicles in the country and pledged to work with the FRSC to achieve set targets.
He said the board would continue to carry out its duties effectively for the overall development of the country as taxation remained the main source of revenue for the government.
The JTB chairman urged the participants to come up with practical solutions to problems of motor vehicle registration data management in the country.
