The Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on Sunday, arrested a Lagos-Ekiti commercial transport driver over possession and transportation of parcels of cocaine for delivery at Ado-Ekiti.
The agency made the arrest and seizure during a routine vehicular check along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Named Taiwo, the suspect, who plies Lagos-Ekiti route with a gold-colour Toyota Siena, took off from the popular Odo-Iyaalaro New garage at Ojota, heading to Ado-Ekiti.
According to a passenger, who spoke to Motoring World in anonymity, Taiwo, shortly after departing Lagos, stopped at a petrol station, where he collected the two parcels from a waiting sender.
“But at the Guru Maharaji stop near Ibadan,” the passenger recalled, “the NDLA agents stopped our vehicle, asked the driver what was in the parcels. The driver said he did not know and that he only collected them to be delivered to somebody in Ado-Ekiti. The officials cut the parcels open and found packets of substance they believe is cocaine. So the driver was immediately arrested with his vehicle. While we the passengers had to find alternative means to complete our journey to Ado-Ekiti.”
Motoring World gathered that the NDLA agents are on the trail of the person to whom the parcel was sent, as the phone numbers of both the sender and addressee are with the driver.
