As a major highlight of this year’s training and capacity building workshop for the Nigerian automotive journalists, the Director-General (DG) of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Jelani Aliyu, is expected to shed light on Nigeria’s future migration from petrol-powered vehicles to gas and Electric-powered vehicles (EVs).
Organized by the Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA), the umbrella body for journalists covering the automobile sector, the event, with the theme ‘’Migration from Petrol to Electric & Gas-Powered Vehicles; Opportunities & Challenges for Nigeria’’, is slated for July 29 at Sheraton Hotels, Ikeja Lagos, with the NADDC DG as the guest speaker.
As the global automotive industry looks towards electric and gas as alternative sources to petrol, Nigeria is not left out in the new migration efforts by different countries with the NADDC as the chief driver.
In a statement signed by Mike Ochonma, chairman of the Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA), the annual event is aimed at providing a robust refresher course for auto journalists to enhance their performances and aid their skills in reporting the auto industry, especially in view of the new electric car technology that is gradually being accepted by many countries.
According to him, the theme of this year’s training workshop was necessitated by the ongoing moves of many countries, including Nigeria, to replace petrol-powered vehicles with electric and gas-powered vehicles.
“Given the challenges of the times,” he pointed out, “NAJA’s resolve to continually equip members across the nation with relevant skills, and acquaint them with modern trends, tools and techniques for enhanced and effective performance is further demonstrated through this upcoming seminar.
“Since this new global thinking, there are many questions and concerns from vehicle owners both from the individual and corporate fleet buyers on the implications of the new trend.”
“It is therefore important for journalists covering the beat to be abreast of the new technology for them to adequately report the sector, and also be able to answer questions and concerns regarding the new trends,” he added.
