In preparation for full Automobile manufacturing in Nigeria, Laboratories to ensure that vehicles are inspected to conform with regulations governing worldwide safety and emission standard is at 70% completion.
The Director General, National Automotive Design and DevelopmentĀ Council(NADDC), Aliyu Jelani, made this known recently in a keynote address during the unveiling of Made-in- Nigeria entry level 2019 Honda HR-V at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos.
The Hi-Rider Revolutionary- vehicle (HR-V), which was launched on the second day of 14th Lagos Motor Fair is a five-seater vehicle, proudly assembled in Nigeria.
He said, āāwhile the government will soon unveil the new auto finance fund that would enable more Nigerians and corporate organizations access low interest loans to acquire newĀ vehicles, the development of automotive laboratories for safety tests are at 70% completion stage.āā
According to him, the Nigerian government, through the NADDC, is already working to accelerate the process of transition from the importation of used cars to the manufacture and distribution of new passenger vehicles, while providing a conducive legislative environment that would encourage the manufacturing of motor vehicles in Nigeria.
Jelani said, āā the councilās focus and commitment remain on initiating policies, implementing strategies and bringing in world class approaches that will make Nigeria become and remain the centre for automotive development in Africa.āā
The laboratory for roadworthiness inspection and examination ensures that major safety items such as tyres,Ā brakes, steering, suspension system, seat belts, lamps and reflectors, windscreen, wipers, emissions, chassis and performance are examined to ensure they meet the prescribed safety standards.
