ROTIMI ASHER
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he history of vehicle can be traced back, not to the days of Henry Ford like we have been made to believe, but to the days of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, who at that time had two chariots.(Genesis 41:43).
The chariots were his official vehicles. So Pharaoh gave one to Joseph, when he became a prime minister in the land of Egypt.
A chariot, according to the dictionary, is a two-wheeled, horse-driven vehicle, used in the Bronze Age and Early iron Age or a light four-wheel carriage used for ceremonial or pleasure purposes.
Indeed, what is known as automobile today started as chariot. Having said that, it is important to note that chariot metamorphosis from horse-driven vehicle to engine through Henry Ford, then, with a big engine still based on number of horse power. Hence, we have 150hp, 130hp etc. Good thing engines of vehicles have become smaller overtime. Thanks to technological advancement.
Incidentally, every development in the auto industry did not come as a surprise to good bible students, who take time to study this most widely, read and circulated book on earth. This book, the Holy Scripture, predicted the advent of vehicle and its development. In fact, all the happenings in the world and current development in the auto industry had been foretold in the biblical prophecy of the old and the new testament.
For instance, Nahum, a prophet in the Old Testament already foretold the transition of chariots to modern automobiles.
”The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall jostle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like lightning.”( Nahum 2:4)
Of course, the advancement and increase in the number of vehicles on our roads have led to gridlock and accidents. When there is no gridlock, we see these vehicles run at top speed on expressways. In the night, they actually seem like torches as prophesised by Nahum. Even driverless which was confined to the realm of fiction has become a reality – from horse-driven to man-driven and then to driverless.
In 1933, God showed a very popular prophet in the United States, William Branham, vision of seven major events that would transpire on earth before the coming of Christ. In the fourth vision, he said, “the fourth showed great advances in science that would come after the Second World War. It was headed up in the vision of a plastic bubble topped car that was running down beautiful highways under remote control so that people appeared seated in this car without a steering and they are playing some sort of a game to amuse themselves.”
This vision has now been fulfilled. Driverless car has been test-driven, driverless bus too. A driverless bus was test-driven in Australia last month. It is no more in the realm of fiction and vision; they have come to the road near us.
The Driverless technology, according to a report, is expected to be worth £900 billion globally by 2025 and is currently growing by 16 percent a year.
It is interesting to know that humans have demonstrated sense of foresight through driverless vehicles. Yes, driverless vehicles could help ease traffic congestion, lower pollution and prevent accidents.
No doubt, most of the accidents on our roads are caused by human error. They over speed and ignore traffic signs and sometimes drink before driving. These errors could be avoided through driverless vehicles.
Machines or Robots are much better at following rules than human beings. So, there is definitely going to be reduction of road accidents, when driverless vehicles become fully operational on our roads. Our environment would also be cleaner in term of carbon monoxide pollution which comes from the exhaust of traditional vehicles. The use of gasoline will be done away with since computer does not need fuel to work. This is great news.
Much as I do not want to talk about the disadvantages of driverless vehicles, I think it is one of the greatest achievements of man. It appears man cannot go further than driverless. Based on prophecy, the arrival of driverless vehicles marks the end of all things. Everything around us point to one fact: this earth may not escape the judgement of God.
Though, man has tried all he could to make this earth a comfortable and peaceful place through different technological breakthrough, the more they make these inventions, the worse the earth becomes.
The word, sin has been the bane of man. Humans have failed woefully to heed the instruction of his maker and the results have been earthquakes, wars, killings and economic recession. Like the Bible says, the earth is near destruction by fire.
” Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words, which were spoken before by the Holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and saviour, knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, ‘where is the promise of His coming?
For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation” For this they wilfully forget: that by the word of God the heaven were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgement and perdition of ungodly men.”( 2 Peter 3: 1-8)
There may be continual improvement of the driverless vehicle technology, I can bet it; we should not look forward to a technological development in the auto world that will supersede driverless vehicle. From horse- driven to man-driven and now driverless? What next? End of the world.
