5 Die, 5 Injured In Lagos 3rd Bridge Accident

[dropcap]F[/dropcap]ive persons on Sunday died in an accident which occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

The accident occurred near the UNILAG waterfront, inward Iyana-Oworonshoki.

Mr Michael Akindele, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEPA), confirmed this in a statement he made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He said the accident involved a LAGBUS, a Hilux pick up belonging to a local vigilance group and a Rover jeep.

“Five persons comprising: three female adults and two children died in the accident.

“Their bodies have been deposited at the Lagos Mainland Hospital mortuary by the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU).

“Five others who sustained injuries have been transported by LASAMBUS to another general hospital’s trauma centre.

“Security and others agencies on ground to ensure free flow of traffic after the accident included: LASTMA, FRSC, Nigerian Police and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS)”, Akindele stated.

He added that the LASEMA response unit has also recovered the affected vehicles from the scene of the accident.

The LASEMA General Manager said that the relevant government agencies would conduct proper investigation into the cause of the accident.

Akindele advised motorists to reduce their speed while driving and always adhere to all traffic rules and regulation while driving to avoid accidents.
