Toyota Nigeria Launches 8th Generation All-New Camry


Barely four months after the 2018 Toyota Camry debuted at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), Toyota Nigeria Limited (TNL) on Thursday unveiled its tropicalized version into the Nigerian market.

Introducing the car to journalists and dealers at the company’s Lekki, Lagos showroom, venue of the launch, TNL’s Managing Director, Mr. Kunle Ade-Ojo, who was represented by the company’s General Manager, Corporate Services, Mr. Bunmi Onafowokan,described the latest Camry as a remarkable package of safety, comfort and performance in equal proportion.

In a welcome remark presented on his behalf by  Mr.Onafowokan, Ade-Ojo noted that the new model had undergone a total transformation and transition, from a proven sedan to one that pushes the boundaries of technology.

He explained: “It is a model that has enjoyed a high level of goodwill and acceptance not only for the superior quality engineering behind it, but also for its stunning beauty. It is no exaggeration that the rich history of this model already imbues it with outstanding attributes peculiar only to all its siblings in our model line-up.

“From its upgraded, trendier exterior to its spacious interior design, the latest model of the CAMRY will readily arouse in its lovers a driving pleasure unparalleled in its class.”

Key characteristics of the new Camry, as presented by TNL’s Marketing Manager, Mr. Bayo Olawoyin, include leading fuel economy and top class safety.

Most especially, the car comes with high strength cabin and collision support body, back monitor with pedestrian detector, intelligent clearance sonar rear cross traffic auto brake, rear electric sunshade and electronic parking brake.

Also included in the Camry’s load of safety are nine airbags, protection for the driver as well as front and rear passengers.

According to Olawoyin, the new Camry comes with what is known as BRAKE HOLD, meaning, “when the brake-hold switch is ON and the transmission is engaged other than Park or Reverse, the brake is automatically applied.”

And indeed, the electronic parking brake will automatically engage after 3 minutes if the car has not moved.

No wonder the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), a U.S. nonprofit organization funded by auto insurers, awarded the new generation Toyota Camry with Top Safety Peak+ More than that, the car also received a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an agency of the Executive Branch of the United State’ government.

For the nation’s teaming lovers of Toyota, TNL is offering for sale new Generation Camry with compelling choice of all-new 2.5L Dynamic Force 4-cylinder and a new 3.5L V6 engines, each delivering a sophisticated blend of performance and efficiency.

Olawoyin said: “The new 2.5L engine has improved performance by approximately 6% over that of the outgone model.”

Toyota Camry has evolved through seven generations, first of which was introduced in 1982.
