Nigeria’s FRSC Partners Muslim Clerics

The Federal Roads Safety Commission (FRSC) is collaborating with Muslim clerics in Niger to achieve it 2018 Corporate Strategic Goal of ensuring safety on the roads.

Towards this end, a Ramadan Symposium tagged ‘’The Muslim as a Road user’’ was organised for Muslims clerics and scholars by the Suleja Unit of the FRSC on Saturday in Suleja.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Niger, Corps Commander Yusuf Garba, charged the religious leaders to use the various sections contained in the Quran on safety and protections of human lives to get to road users.

‘’The religion did not leave drivers and commuters to act as they wish on the road as in all other matter. It is from the Quran that you find the penalty of causing harm to fellow humans whether on the road or off it.

‘’The Muslim as a road user needs to understand the expectations of Almighty Allah from him and towards mankind and other creatures including the animals and trees,’’ he said.

Garba, who was represented by FRSC Suleja Unit Commander, Olayinka Akande, said the Imams should use the different platforms offered by the Ramadan.

He said that the Ramadan was a single occasion where large numbers of faithful gathers acquire religious knowledge and should be exploited to preach about abiding by the rules and regulations of road safety.

Similarly, the Head of Operation of the Suleja Unit, Mr Shehu Koko, charged the Imams to used their position to instil the culture of safety on the people.

He said that the two Muslims books of Quran and Hadith provided enough guidance to the Muslim drivers to adhere to in their daily duties.

in their contributions, the Imams pledged to partner with the FRSC and other security agencies in tackling the menace of road accidents.

Malam Musa Zaharadeen urged the FRSC to always be fair in their dealings with motorists in order to get their cooperation and confidence.

He said that corrective measure rather than punitive ones should be emphasised in the dealings with the people generally.

Other clerics advised the corps and other security agencies to stamp out the root causes of road accidents.

They said the Police, NDLEA and the FRSC as well as relevant government agencies must eradicate the evils of drug abuse, bad roads and state of vehicle road worthiness.
