The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has resolved to deploy not less than 25,000 personnel across various parts of Nigeria, to ensure safety of road travellers during Christmas and the New Year celebration.
This was revealed by Mr Nseobong Akpabio, FRSC’s assistant Corp Marshal, who represented the Corp Marshal, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, at this year’s Nigeria Auto Journalists award night held on Thursday, at Eko Hotel and Suite, Victoria Island, Lagos.
In a keynote address at the occasion, Mr. Akpabio urged stakeholders in the auto industry to make safety a priority.
“I all they do”, said Mr. Akpabio, “stakeholders, especially auto assemblers and manufacturers need to ensure that they put in international best practice in their assembly plant.’
The Assistant Corp marshal extolled the auto policy and emphasised the need for international standard in the kind of vehicles imported and assembled in Nigeria.
On the modality of distribution the 25,000 of the Commission’s staffs across the country, Mr. Akpabio said while most of the deployed personnel would be sent out to different areas of Nigeria, Lagos will take more personnel than other states, because, according to him, the state account for 30 percent of vehicular population in Nigeria.
He, therefore, urged motorists to drive safely during the yuletide.
