Mikano Motors, a subsidiary of Mikano International Limited, in partnership with Durojaiye Relief Foundation(DRF) has spearheaded a Road Safety Awareness Initiative geared towards sensitizing motorists and pedestrians to embrace proper road safety measures, for a safer travel experience on Lagos roads.

The event held recently, supported by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), had LASTMA officials and Mikano staff in attendance.

The campaign kicked off with a courtesy visit of DRF’s Executive Committee and LASTMA’s Mayor Commandant to Mikano International Motor Division Headquarters, for a briefing on the planned activities for the road safety awareness campaign.

The briefing session was then followed by a two-day road show, during which members of the NURTW Lagos Chapter and other road users were sensitized to the importance of obeying basic traffic rules. The safety awareness covered wearing safety belts, the need to avoid distraction, texting while driving, driving under the influence of alcohol among other vital road safety best practices

In addition to the sensitization, the importance of proper maintenance as the best approach for keeping vehicles in the best shape and ensuring the safe transport of passenger across the state was emphasized. Some motorists also benefitted from a complimentary oil change as an added incentive.

Speaking during the event, Mikano Motors’ Marketing Manager, Karima Okunola said, ‘’ Mikano International has always supported road safety activities with several of our staff serving dutifully as traffic mayors. With the advent of our motors division, we are seeking opportunities to work even more closely with the relevant agencies to make our roads safer.’’

She said, ‘’ we are very much aware that keeping our roads safe will avert a lot of carnage. For road safety, everyone has a part to play. We are excited to play our part in making our roads safe. It is part of our corporate social responsibility as a company.
