EVANS, Boulos GM, Sales and Marketing: “We like to have 100 per cent market share”

In an exclusive interview last week, the company’s General Sales and Marketing Manager, Stanley Evans, revealed to Motoring World that Boulos had its best month in February, when it sold over 1200 Piaggio tricycles.

The pre-election sales success, according to Evans, is attributable to quality of the brand and models of motorcycles and three-wheelers that Boulos assembles and markets in Nigeria.

“Our tricycles as well as other products are designed and made by Nigerians to suit the Nigerian climate and road conditions”, Mr. Evans explained. “The three-wheeler, Piaggio City Petrol and Piaggio D3S, for instance, are brand leaders in the country. They are good quality products, which come Completely Knocked Down (CKD) from India, though they are of Italian engineering. Our tricycle, Piaggio, is the most established brand, the best brand for tricycles. It is very reliable as well”.

On Boulos’ present shares of the motorcycle and tricycle market, Mr. Evans said: “I wouldn’t want to disclose our current market share, because it is like giving competitors marketing information. But I can tell you that from January to February 2015, we were the top in Nigeria regarding motorcycle sales. We beat all competitors”.

Notwithstanding, the company’s aspiration, according to Evans, is to win 100 per cent market share of tricycle and motorcycle sales in Nigeria.

During recent tour of the company’s factory situated at Ikeja, Lagos, Motoring World discovered that, in accordance with the nation’s old and recent automotive policy, Boulos has successfully added local contents into its locally assembled Piaggio tricycle. “As you saw, when you toured the factory”, confirmed Mr. Evans, “the aluminium boxes used for making the tricycles are manufactured locally; and again, you saw the painting area both the aluminium boxes and painting are done in Nigeria.” Boulos Enterprises Limited (BEL), a major manufacturer of tricycles and motorcycles as well as leading distributor of commercial motorcycle, power bikes and outboard motors in Nigeria, has operated in the country since 1964.
